Artist Bio
Josh Philpott (b. 1994, Birmingham, UK) stages poetic interventions to be stumbled upon in public and gallery spaces. Working through drawing, text, film, and sound he draws connections between quiet absurdities in everyday life, the found random encounter as poetry-in-situ, and social exchanges in relation to the built environment. He thinks about psychogeography, absurdism, dry humour, and Midwestern-emo. Recent interventions include Growing Season: Part 2 curated by Coven, Lewisham Arthouse, London, UK (2025); his first solo exhibition Site of Ghosts (Fka “Proposal for an opening, proposal for an afterimage”, fka “You Are Here”) at the Project Space at Turf Projects, Croydon, UK (2024), presented alongside the group show Conditions Exhibition 2023-24, Conditions, Croydon, UK (2024); Light Beams Under A Bridge: Volume 12, a group film screening under a railway bridge organised by Street Soundsystem, London, UK (2024); Growing Season: Part 1 curated by Coven in the Coven garden, London, UK (2024); "Esoteritech" on NTS Live 2 radio and online (2024); DUMP 01 at Greatorex Street, London, UK (2023). He curated Poems for A Gap In the Door at Conditions Studios Project Space, Croydon, UK (2023). He has been a member of Conditions Studio Programme (Croydon, UK) since 2019.
